“I’m so happy that you are my daughters mentor because she is excited to have you in her life. Each time before you come to pick her up, she counts down the hours and minutes which makes me happy that someone meaning you has put a spark back in that little girls eyes."
“(Mentee) absolutely loves (Mentor), they are perfectly matched. I am really impressed with the programme.”
Email from Mentee’s Mum to Jacquie. “I am truly grateful that Big Brothers Big Sisters have helped me with my little girl. I have seen such wonderful progress with her. (Mentee’s) confidence has been built up her choosing of right and wrong has improved and myself and her relationship has had some great progress. Big Brothers Big Sisters are a great asset to Nelson in helping our young children wide and far also of many cultures and to know that there is that access that can help a big family like mine. Thank you Big Brothers Big Sisters the time that many volunteers put in to help other young ones has been great I am sure that there are other families that can testify to the help and support that they have received from this organization. With saying that there is little room that I can see that needs improvement of a friendly supportive family oriented organization that Big Brothers Big Sisters stand for.”
"Everything is going great. (Mentor) is wonderful, (Mentee) thinks the world of him, and I think he's great too for all the time he puts into my son. I'm so thankful we managed to get into big Brothers, what you guys do is awesome!"

Some conversations really do start something: something that lasts, something big. Sometimes there’s a moment when a seed of an idea is planted, and it germinates, takes root and grows. When young police officer Trevor Gaskell was out on a routine patrol in Toronto, he had no idea that a conversation he would have that night was to be one of those moments – a catalyst for something far greater.
It was the late 60’s, and Trevor was doing a 3 ½ year stint with the 52nd division of the Metro Toronto Police Department. This particular evening while on duty with his partner, an officer by the name of Dave Boothby, the usual banter and jokes between the two were not forthcoming. Dave was unusually quiet and seemed distracted. In typical style, Trevor asked Dave what was up.
